By: Jennifer Lee
Updated: September 4, 2012
Last week we here at Eyewitness News reported on shots fired at Brandagee Apartments on Jay St in Utica.  Utica Police have now released new information showing the man they found with a gunshot wound to chest had shot himself.

Police conducted a search on the apartment after a warrant was approved. They say 22-year-old Edwin Dejesus-Amparo had a .45 calibur gun that was the same gun they found during the search.

Police also found a quantity of packaged cocaine.

Dejesus was in the hospital for treatment and interviewed.  Police determined the injury was an accidental self-inflicted gun shot.

Police charged Dejesus with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
