Senator James Seward made a visit to the Oneonta-based Northeast Parent
and Child Society this morning. Senator Seward was given a tour of the
non-profit facility, meeting with employees to learn more about the
services they provide for at-risk children. Employees say they hope to
raise awareness for the growing needs of foster parents and foster care
in Otsego County.
"There's an unmet need of kids that are just on waiting lists to get into foster homes in the area," says David Martinkovic, regional director at Northeast Parent and Child Society.
"Providing more opportunity, more placement opportunities for more children, I think that's good for all of us in society. By saving a child, we're going to help make them a successful adult, and that's good for everyone," says Senator James Seward.
Employees at the Northeast Parent and Child Society say the growing need for foster parents increases during back-to-school season.
