Tonight, on the eve of September 11th, a group of our own public safety
personnel were honored at the Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department in
Rome. They were recognized for a previous incident where multiple
agencies came together to put out a house fire that had a victim trapped
inside. With team effort from Oneida County volunteer firefighters,
police officers, the sheriff's department and state troopers, the victim
was rescued alive. Family, friends, and government officials came out
to honor the servicemen involved.
"We don't do it for money, fame, or glory. We do it because it's a job that needs to get done. And this type of event makes you realize why you do it all," says Larry Tamburrino, Lake Delta Fire Chief.
Senator Joe Griffo gave a speech recognizing our servicemen that go above and beyond the call of duty. And County Executive Anthony Picente proclaimed that today, September 10th, is First Responder Day in Oneida County.
