"I really would like to see Herkimer stay the way it is," said Herkimer resident, Lucy Giffune.
"I think it's a good idea. It's going to bring in more money. It's consolidation, there will be less expenses as far as the administration is concerned," said William Homyk.
Deputy Superintendent of Herkimer Central School District says there was a steady flow of voters throughout the afternoon.
"We had quite a small crowd right at noon when the polls opened, and we've actually increased our machines from last time, so thinks are moving smoothly," he said.
Herkimer alum, Katy Jantzen says she doesn't want to see her school lose it's identity.
"I am totally against it. I think they need the teachers that they have now because I didn't have any problems coming to school here. I love it," she said.
Lucy Giffune says she's for a merger, but without Herkimer Central School District.
"It should be between Mohawk and Ilion. I feel that they are the two schools that need a merger, I really believe that they should leave Herkimer alone," she said.
So with all the different opinions floating around, which way do the residents think the votes will sway?
"It seems like it's going to go but I'm really hoping that it won't" said Giffune.
