Herkimer ARC holds SibShop; workshop for brothers and sisters of siblings with disabilities

Every child deserves attention... And the Herkimer ARC says today is a
day to remember a group of children that don't always get that special
attention.
The ARC held a workshop for brothers and sisters of siblings with disabilities. Coordinators say SibShops give these brothers and sisters the opportunity to talk about common joys and concerns with other children who may be going through similar experiences.
"Our job is to take people with developmental disabilities out into the community and to do things. There's not a lot of this for siblings for this to do and they're obviously having a great time and we have fun doing it," says JoAnna Keeler, supervisor.
"When I come here, that's my opportunity to feel like I have attention; open up about what happens at home, and gives me a chance to get away from home, and interact with other children," says Matthew Everson, participant.
Children took part in physical activities, group discussions, and even went on a field trip to the Utica Zoo.
