15 years ago today, the first open-heart surgery was performed at the Mohawk Valley Heart Institute.

Staff members were recognized today for their hard work and dedication. Some call it a landmark cardiac program because of it's unique collaboration between St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Faxton- St. Luke's Healthcare

"Relatively few cardiac programs that are a joint venture between 2 community hospitals in the same community. And since we've been now doing this in a partnership for 15 years, we thought it was a cause for celebration," says Albert D'Accurzio, Vice President of Hospital Affairs.

As of the 15th anniversary, the  Mohawk Valley Heart Institute says it has performed over 50,000 cardiac catherizations, over 6,000 cardiac surgeries, and nearly 10,000 electrophysiology procedures.
