Tonight the city of Utica held it's last of 3 public hearings to discuss Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for the 2013-2014 year.

It was the final opportunity for community members and non-for-profit organizations to publicly express their opinions on how the city should allocate the allotment of it's federal dollars. Eyewitness News spoke with 2 non-for-profits who are asking for grants.

"At RCIL, we have a wonderful adult day service program that assists senior citizens with remaining in their homes. We have a wonderful program that foster community involvement and each day, our goal is to make a senior citizen feel good about themselves," says Michelle Murphy, program director at RCIL Utica.

"There's so many children in our neighborhood that need a safe haven, a safe place, they can come to and have a delicious hot meal and also have life skills training, education, and recreation."
Reverend Maria Skates, executive director at Johnson Park Center.

All CDBG applications are due November 1st to City Hall, Attn: Brian Thomas. Coordinators say the plan must be ready for public review, by January 15th. And the workplan must be sent to Housing and Urban Development (HUD), by February 15th.
