State Police are releasing the name of a Utica woman who was found dead in a pond in Marcy Monday night. Officials say 52-year-old Debra Sadigh drowned in her boyfriend's pond on Seavy Road.
The autopsy was conducted earlier today at the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office. Although the cause of death has been determined as "drowning," officials say they're still trying to figure out how she died.
Police say they do not have any information right now to indicate whether or not it is foul play. Captain Mark Lincoln says the boyfriend is cooperating with authorities.
"Anytime we have a drowning that wasn't observed and we don't have information how the person got into the water to begin with we have questions as to what may have occurred that led up to the incident. The suspicious thing is it wasn't like she fell off a boat or a pier. There was nobody that we found that saw her go in the water," said Capt. Lincoln.
Officials say it does not look like it was a swimming-type incident. They say the pond is small, maybe four or five feet deep. Police say they don't know if she could swim or not.
Captain Lincoln says people were looking for her last night. They saw her car on the property, but nobody knew where she was. That's when she was found in the pond.
The investigation is continuing.
