Residents talk with local candidates at Republican fall dinner in Ilion

Carolyn Hayes has been hitting the polls since 1960.

"Our country is important to me, and politics is part of it," she said.

While voting for the next President is on her agenda, so is electing local candidates in her area.

"I want to respect them, I want to know them in order to respect them," said Hayes.

"I truly believe that when we support them they're willing to think about us, and when they go out and make laws and think about what we need, they can put a face to it," said Patricia Stock of Little Falls.

Local candidates running for an office in Herkimer County had the chance to put that name with a face in their community Thursday night.

Residents were able to talk about issues that concerned them at the annual Republican fall dinner in Ilion.

"I think it's a good idea to get together to generate the idea of having elections and getting people out to vote and inspire them with the candidates ideas and their positions," said Chairman of the Herkimer County Republican Committee, Sylvia Rowan.

And no matter what the party affiliation is, the Herkimer County residents there on Thursday night just want to see as many people hitting the polls on November 6th.

"It's our right and our privilege, and we should make our voice be heard," said Stock.
