The Oneida County Board of Legislators voted to abolish the current coroner's system earlier this year, and adopt the medical examiner's system.

But, some officials are questioning the County Executive's plan to work with the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.

Currently there are four elected coroners working for Oneida county. But next year, the county hopes to hire four-part time forensic investigators.

Those investigators will be working for Onondaga County, but serving Oneida County.

"I don't see how we are better off with these four forensic investigators that will be assisting the ME's office in Syracuse than the present coroner's. In fact we are worse off because if someone isn't doing their job we can vote them out because they are on the ballot. And if they aren't performing their job someone else can step up to the plate," said Legislator Chad Davis, D-18.

Legislator Davis and other officials are also raising concerns over costs as well as if the county executive followed proper protocol to propose the switch.
