Many people benefit from modern day technology, but it can sometimes come with a cost.

Identity theft has become more common, and to work on preventing the crime, Utica College has partnered up with the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce to put on an identity theft seminar.

The presentation gave merchants and members of the chamber a heads up on the latest techniques that the criminals are using when it comes to different aspects of identity theft.

"Our merchants and our business people are on the front line of accepting payments, electronic payments either in person or over the internet so they really need to be trained in the news techniques," said Raymond Philo, Director of the Economic Crime Institute at Utica College.

Along with this seminar, Utica College hopes to partner up with the chamber of commerce again in the future.
