Researchers conducted a study with over 90,000women aged 25 to 42. The women completed questionnaires about their diet every four years for 18 years. And the researchers found that women who eat blueberries and strawberries regulary may reduce their risk of a heart attack later in life.
"Women who had a history of consuming blueberries and strawberries more 3 times a week had significantly lower heart attack incidents over the 20-year period that they looked. Whether or not there's cause and effect, we really don't know, but it doesn't hurt to eat strawberries and blueberries a lot," says Dr. Frank Dubeck, president of American Heart Association, Utica Division
During the study, over 400 heart attacks happened. Researchers say women who ate the most blueberries and strawberries had a 32-percent reduction in their risk of heart attack compared to women who ate the berries once a month or less.
