Community remembers fallen officers in our area

Not a day goes by where Kathy Corr doesn't think about her son.

"I carry him on my shoulder," she said, smiling.

And exactly seven years later, the community continues to celebrate the life of Officer Joseph Corr.

In 2006, the New Hartford Police Officer was killed in the line of duty responding to an armed robbery.

"It was such a tragic event," said New Hartford Police Chief, Michael Inserra. "Jose was such a well liked person not only in the police department, he was a good police officer, he was a good friend to all of us in the department but he was also very well liked in the community."

New this year in the celebration along with honoring Officer Corr, is a tribute to other fallen officers in our area.

"I think it's important we remember his sacrifice, but also to remember the sacrifices that the other officers have made," said Corr's father, David.

Family and friends lit candles in remembrance for Deputy Kurt Wyman, Officer Thomas Lindsey, and Trooper AJ Sperr, who is from the Rochester area.

And while Officer Corr isn't here physically, his family says his legacy will live on.

"Forever, long after we are gone," said Kathy Corr.
