Craig Ingersoll, the man sentenced to 25 years to life in prison last month for the murder of Jennifer Bennett, has been found dead in his prison cell at Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, NY.
The State Department of Corrections confirms to Eyewitness News that Ingersoll was found unresponsive in his single cell on Tuesday night at 9:40, hanging by his shoe laces.
Officials say emergency personel was contacted and conducted CPR on Ingersoll. Ingersoll was pronounced dead by a doctor from Wyoming County Community Hospital at 10:40 PM.
At this time, the State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, State Police, State Commission of Correction, and Wyoming County Coroner's Office are still investigating Mr. Ingersoll's death. Officials say Ingersoll was not on suicide watch.
Jennifer Bennett's body was found behind the Deerfield Fire Department in January, 2007. A jury in Oneida County found Ingersoll guilty of her death five years later, after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
