Gary Latanich is an economics professor.

He has been teaching at Arkansas State University for the last 30 years, and now Latanich wants to give back.

His candidacy is all about "bad economics," he says.

Latanich warns Republican policies of "cut, cap and balance" will ruin the country.

Instead, the self-professed "progressive Democrat" says it's time to spend.

Latanich wants to expand public health care, medicare and food stamps.

He says the more the government spends, the more money people will have to buy things and stimulate the economy.

"People unemployed, losing their homes, living in poverty, while the government has money they can use to spend, but we're being told, oh, the deficits are a problem, we're going to go bankrupt. Governments can't go bankrupt when they create their own money."
