(October 10, 2012)  We continue our candidate profile series. This week we're focusing on the race for PA State Representative in the 5th district, which covers parts of Erie and Crawford counties.
This seat is being vacated by republican John Evans at the end of the year.
Squaring off are democrat Jason White and tonight's featured candidate, republican Greg Lucas.

Greg Lucas is an Edinboro resident who has spent a decade working in local government as well as time in the private sector and in education as a teacher.
He's currently the Mayor of Edinboro, but says he's always been interested in state government and this seemed like a good opportunity to get involved.

"I've done everything from milk cows to put on roofs and build houses. Now, I'm teaching that to students. I think i really have a common sense approach to things. There's a lot of people that talk and there's some people that do. I'm definitely a doer," said Greg Lucas (R) Candidate for PA Rep/5th District.

So, what does Lucas plan on doing if elected a State Representative?
He says he has knocked on more than 18,000 doors throughout the campaign and has heard concerns about jobs, the economy and education. His number one priority is to help create more jobs by making Pennsylvania more business friendly and retaining the jobs we already have.

"If we can keep good jobs here, create new jobs - not only jobs, but careers, well paying jobs, I think all the rest of the problems will be solved," said Lucas.

As for education, Lucas comes from a family of teachers and is an educator himself. He says funding is important to him.

"Last thing I want to do is get rid of teaching jobs and to outsource jobs to the private sector. I'm very much against privatizing anything having to do with education. I'm a huge proponent of public education and making sure the funds are there, as well as higher education."
