Since this is still first of the year, people
remain focused on their New Year's resolutions of weight loss and exercise.

The basic key to losing weight is to take in less calories than you burn off

For heart health (and mental health) Dr. Holloway
recommends to walk two miles five days a week.

However, an average 200-pound man will only lose about 1/3-1/2 pound/week with this walking program, unless he changes his eating habits.

One pound is equal to 3500 calories

Most dieters want to lose weight faster than one pound per week.

In order to lose two pounds per week that 200-pound man would have to walk for three hours a day seven days per week.

Thus, it would be much more feasible to also cut back on calories, as well.

If he cut his calories by 800 cal/day, that program of 2 miles five day per week would result in 2 pounds weight loss per week.
