Camden Ousted

A pair of late 3-pointers from Amy Tiernan thwarted a huge rally by the Camden girls basketball team and Carthage went on to post an 86-76 Class A quarterfinal win.

The first half action was fast paced and much to the delight of the packed house. Carthage took a 49-46 lead at the half behind star center Sarah Johnson's 23 points. The fifth-seeded Comets then opened the second half with a 15-0 run.

Back to back threes from Comets guards Joelle Percy and Tiernan got things started for Carthage. Sarah Johnson, the Comets leading scorer at 20 points a game, then hit consecutive baskets including a three to push the lead to 60-46. A pair of free throws from Tiernan and a short jumper from Kailah Kempney completed the visitors’ run.
