There will be plenty of fireworks to kick-off the 2010 Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs season. On June 5th, Veterans Memorial Park in Little Falls will host the home opener of the DiamondDawgs and conclude with a post-game fireworks display. The DiamondDawgs regular season runs from early June to late July and includes 21 home games in Little Falls.
The DiamondDawgs play in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, a wood bat league with 14 teams located throughout New York State. The team joined the league as an expansion team in 2006 under the name the Little Falls Diamond Miners. The team changed ownership in 2009 and with it changed the name to the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs. Last season the Dawgs finished 17 and 24 and narrowly missed the playoffs.
The NYCBL is a developmental wood bat summer league for college athletes who have yet to sign a professional contract. Former NYCBL players include Atlanta Braves pitcher Tim Hudson, Houston Astros outfielder Hunter Pence, and Philadelphia Phillies closer Brad Lidge.
