Unbeaten Marauders bound for basketball final four.

They’ve had this goal for quite a while.

Now, the New York Mills Marauders are headed to where they want to be, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys basketball Final Four in Glens Falls next weekend.

“We’ve been thinking about that since the beginning of the season,” senior guard Matt Dziekan said.

“Desire and intensity,” said Jeremy Miller, another senior guard, in explaining the difference in the game. “We wanted it more than they did. Our only goal was to go to Glens Falls. We’ve had the same goal since the start of the season.”

The Marauders used a 21-2 first-half run to break the game open. Junior center Fred Russ spearheaded a big third quarter that put the game away as New York Mills rolled to a 65-38 Class D regional victory over South Kortright Saturday at Thomas R. Proctor High School’s Michael Arcuri Gymnasium.

The win avenged last year’s regional loss to South Kortright, the eventual state champion. The win improved the Marauders’ record to 23-0, and sent them to the Final Four for the sixth time in their history and first since 1989.
