Falling into cooler temperatures

The leaves have already begun to change color for fall. Autumn is
quickly approaching and bringing in cooler temperatures, with some
evenings to hit the low thirties.
Although Edward Jekel is not too excited about the cooler temperatures, he still prepares his home to get ready.
"I will go around the house and check the basement windows, make sure they are sealed up properly," said Jekel.
Jekel also knows with cooler weather, comes higher energy prices. Therefore, he does what he can to save money during the fall.
"One of the first things I'm going to do is check all the thermostats and make sure they are programmed to go on and off at a certain time," said Jekel.
With temperatures slowly decreasing, and air conditioning units no longer needed, there are certain things that should be done to get the most out of your heating.
David Collis says that any system whether it be oil or gas, should be tuned up and kept maintained on an annual basis. This helps the system act efficient as possible. He also says to replace systems every 15 to 25 years.
"If you have a system that's older, it might be time to upgrade it, " said Collis.
Collis says people should turn on their heat before they actually need it to make sure the system is working properly.
"Once you turn the heat on, summer's over and you're looking at winter. We don't like to rush into winter, " said Jekel.
