$40 million have the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council and members of the community talking tonight.

About 80 people showed up at the Mohawk Valley Community College tonight. The public shared their input for the Mohawk Valley region to be one step closer in the hopes to win $40 million.

It's all a part of Governor Cuomo's plan to spur economic development.

"Governor Cuomo's taken ten councils across the state and asked us to compete. To put together the best strategic plan," said Larry Gilroy, co-chair of the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council.

The four best plans will be awarded with $40 million to invest in the region's economy.

Tonight, the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council asked the public to come out and enhance their draft.

The council's main concern is to recapture the younger generation.

"What do we need to do here to attract and keep the younger people rather them leaving the area. We have an attractive region, but how do we get the jobs to keep the people," questioned Mr. Gilroy.

The Mohawk Valley Region consists of six counties--Herkimer, Otsego, Oneida, Fulton, Montgomery and Schoharie.

Mr. Gilroy says they must come together to come up with a strategic plan.

"We have to have everything sealed and delivered by November 14th. So, we are moving quick. Money will be awarded in December, so this is moving quick," said Gilroy.
