Proctor High School is asking for your help to save the school's music and arts programs. The school's music department has been accepted in the Glee "Give A Note" Campaign.
The Campaign will be awarding money to music programs in jeopardy across the nation.
The students of the music department at Proctor say they really could use the money, especially with recent school budget cuts.
But, the department needs something from you, your vote.
"Vote off of every computer. Have your mom, dad, grandpa, grandma, whoever to vote," said Proctor student, Maja Bajic.
Proctor High School's music students wrote, starred and submitted a video to Glee's "Give A Note" Campaign all in hopes of winning grant money to help save the school's music and arts program.
Some students may not have instruments. So, if one instrument breaks, then one student is down that won't be able to play," explained Bajic.
"Chairs are old and broken down. Holes in the ceiling and old technology. We really need the money to better our school," said senior Amos Williams.
With recent budget cuts, students have to figure out different ways to keep their program alive.
"We have to fundraise for every single thing that we do. We work really hard to get the money," said junior Sara Bollinger.
Mr. Ukena, the department chair for fine arts says his hands are tied.
"All our classes are getting bigger and bigger. When classes are getting bigger, teachers can't spend as much time with students as they like to," explained Mr. Ukena.
The music students say it's more than just playing an instrument.
"Music really bonds us together," said Willams.
"A lot of students really express themselves in the orchestra room. They feel free and they can express themselves a lot better than they can outside," said Bajic.
The school's that receive the most votes will advance to a final selection round.
The National Association for Music Education will then choose schools and award them with money.
Proctor High School is competing with schools in ten other states in the Northeast region. November 7th is the last day to vote.
