Residents have voted to keep the Village of Yorkville Police Department.

Every voter that Eyewitness News spoke with was in favor of keeping the department.

Poll monitors say that there was a great turnout and voting was steady throughout the entire day.

Here are the final numbers:

100 voted yes, to eliminate the department.
538 voted no, to keep the department.

There were 638 total votes.

Yorkville residents say they like the personal relationship the police officers have with the people in the village.

Poll Monitor, Norman Seakan says at 7:00 p.m. over 500 people had came to vote.

"We have way more people then normal that come out for the general election, so there's been a lot of interest in the subject," said Seakan

"Hopefully we don't have to be in this situation again where this comes up. We know them by name, my children feel safe, they know them by name," said Yorkville Resident, Renee Aughey.

"I think that is the right vote. To me, it's a no-brainer. I's worth it to have a local police officer here," said another Yorkville Resident, Richard Graziano.

Graziano says this was a very important topic for the people of Yorkville and was glad to see all the voters out on Tuesday night.
