The idea of a possible adult entertainment facility coming to our area has some residents concerned. The proposed business would be built along State Route 365 and Greenway New London Road.
The business man who has a pending offer for the vacant property wants to build a bar and restaurant with the intent of including a strip club or an adult movie shop.
But, there is a catch, where he wants to build it's in a zoning district with restrictions.
"I would have to probably disagree with something like that because i have children and I wouldn't want them near alcohol and stuff like that," said Rome resident, Nora Degeorge.
Like Degeorge, many say they're against the idea of having an adult entertainment facility coming into town.
An Oneida man has put forth a proposal to build a bar and restaurant in the town of Verona. But, that area is under the F-1 agricultural district meaning there are restrictions on what can be built there, including a bar and restaurant.
The man interested in the property requested for a zone change, also known as a zoning variance.
"When you give someone a zone change you have to show how it's going to impact the neighborhood and change the character of the neighborhood that sort of thing," said Rome Mayor Joseph Fusco.
That is one criterion the zoning board will need to look into to allow the development.
And with the intent of the bar and restaurant having adult entertainment- there are other requirements that need to be met, including the business being at least five hundred feet away from any public or private school, park or church.
We contacted the man interested in the vacant property, but he did not get back to Eyewitness News .
Rome's zoning board will evaluate the proposal at their next meeting on March 6th.
