We told you about Market-New York, a multi-faceted marketing plan to bolster growth right here at home. The commissioner of the state's Office of General Services spoke at Utica College about the Governor's Casino Gaming Plan that could bring up to three more casinos to our region.
"we have 17 in the state, we have 2 right here in the Mohawk Valley. We have Turning Stone Casino and Vernon Downs Racetrack. I think his recognition that upstate New York needs attention is going to help the Mohawk Valley," says RoAnn Destito, Commissioner of NYS Office of General Services.
Another hot topic; The governor's plan to raise minimum wage to $8.75. Some worry that small businesses won't be able to make end's meet, but Destito does not think this will be the case.
"I think it will help because combined with that we're going to see reform in the workers compensation area and I think if we can get workers compensation down, and unemployment, that would more than make up for the increase in minimum wage," says Destito.
