St. Elizabeth's Medical Center is celebrating its 146th anniversary of service to the community.

There was a special presentation of two awards today in the Medical Center Chapel, one to an employee who has been working with the medical center for 34 years and is always going the extra mile.

"My peers, the people i work with everyday chose me to receive this honor. It means a lot to me because I work with so many great people and this great medical center. This place is my second family," said Michele Ward, the award recipient.

The special award is named after the medical center's founder.

The Cardiac Research Institute at Masonic Medical Research Laboratory received the 2nd award, the Founder's Day Community Award.

hometown heroes

Our nation’s best make significant sacrifices while serving in our military to help preserve our freedom and way of life.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, Desert Storm to Kuwait, Vietnam, Korea or World War II, our sons and daughters have sacrificed to serve our country all over the world.

Nominate someone who you think should be a "Hometown Hero."

On Monday nights, WUTR Eyewitness News at 6 and CNYhomepage.com will honor chosen submissions of hometown mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers during our on-going Hometown Heroes campaign.

We will honor Hometown Heroes stemming from the nominations that we receive from our community. Each Hero will be featured on air and right here on CNYhomepage.com.
