In other Oneonta news, community members will soon be seeing a fare increase in public transit. These changes will not effect regular routes inside the city. But there will be changes to the Cooperstown route, the town of Oneonta route, and entry to off-route city locations. But the Oneonta mayor says there are ways for riders to avoid the increase

"They are specific increases on some routes where there is low ridership and also almost in every case people can buy passes that cover multi-day use to avoid the increases all together," says Dick Miller, Oneonta Mayor.

Mayor Miller says the increases are necessary to maintain the older fleet of city buses, and to keep up with the rising price of gas.

Proposed Changes:

Cooperstown Route
-one way increased from $3.00 to $3.50
-round trip or all day pass increased from $5.00 to $5.50
-seniors and student fares increased from $1.50 to $2.00 one way

Town of Oneonta
-drop-off or pick-ups in the Town $1.00 above regular fare, except for locations paying an access fee: Southside Mall, Wal-Mart, Hannaford Plaza, Hannaford Foods, Price Chopper, Arc Otsego

Entry to off route City locations (Bassett River Street, UHS and others) with no entry contract, route deviation fee for pickup or dropoff is $1.00
