U.S. Army Specialist James Hotaling of Marcy, is the son of Chris and Mary Hotaling, and the brother of Marissa.

After graduating from Whitesboro High School, Jim interrupted his college education to join the Army.

In the years since his enlistment, Jim became an Airborne Ranger. He was eventually deployed to Afghanistan. While serving his country in that war-torn nation, Jim and his fellow service members came under a deadly ambush attack. For his injuries sustained during combat, Jim earned the Purple Heart.

In his limited spare time, Jim enjoys hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle.

Jim is now in training to become part of the Green Berets - the most adaptable and specialized troops in the military's arsenal. He's also earning his stripes as sergeant, while stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.

Eyewitness News salutes you, Army Specialist James Hotaling, and we're proud to have you as our hometown hero.
