With the new gun law in effect, many may question how area police agencies will be enforcing the new set of rules.

Oneida County District Attorney Scott McNamara says there is a lot to work through with the new law.

He says it's too early to tell if it's going to be an easy or difficult task.

McNamara says it's not going to be a situation where police are going to start door knocking and conducting search warrants.

"These things are only going to really come about as if someone has contact with the police and it results in the police having a legitimate right to search their home or car. Or if a crime has been committed and that weapon has been used," said McNamara.

The District Attorney says a vast majority of cases the county deals with involve unlawful weapon possessions.
