Some drivers might have been running late to work this morning as roads were backed up.

The Utica Police Department says they responded to at least a dozen car crashes this morning because of the slick roads.

Ed Welsh of AAA says just because the sun is shining and the skies are blue doesn't mean the roads are harmless.

"Approach every intersection as if it's going to be icy. And if you do feel your car skid a little bit, most cars out there today are equipped with anti-lock brakes. Hold your brakes and let the computer do the work. In the old days we told people to pump the brakes. Modern cars that is not necessary," said Welsh.

Welsh says AAA has responded to hundreds of dead battery calls so far today. He wants to remind drivers to get their car batteries tested if it's more than 3-years-old.
