Driver Pleads Guilty In Fatal Police Pursuit/ Collision Case

By: Rachel Polansky
Updated: January 29, 2013
Daniel Conklin pleaded guilty in Herkimer County Court this morning, in connection to a car crash that killed a Frankfort woman last May.

Conklin, a second-felony offender, plead guilty to man-slaughter in the second degree, assault in the second degree, and unlawfully fleeing a police officer in the first-degree. He admitted to causing the death of 65-year-old Gail Pietruska in a collision that followed a high-speed police chase on Route 5. The Herkimer County District Attorney says he was pleased with today's outcome, and he thinks the victims' family is too.

"This was a good disposition giving the facts and circumstances of the case. The surviving victim as you know was in the courtroom, and she has been consulted all the way through with regard to any possible dispositions. She lost her best friend on that date, not only her sister, and i think the prospect of going to trial would have come at some expense to her,"says Jeffrey Carpenter,  Herkimer County District Attorney.

Conklin faces between 5 and 8 years in prison when he's sentenced on May 2nd in Herkimer County Court.
