Earned Income Tax Credit Program kicks off at RCIL in Utica

Although the deadline to file your taxes is months away, one organization is helping area taxpayers get a head start. The Mohawk Valley Asset Building Coalition kicked off its Earned Income Tax Credit Program.

Every year, millions of dollars go unreported for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Trained volunteers will be helping area residents claim these credits at no cost.

The program is to assist low to moderate income working taxpayers keep more of what they earn.

"Our only mission here is to get you everything that you have coming back to you and to prevent you from having you pay someone doing your taxes. The $7.2 million is going unclaimed and we want to put that back in the community. a lot of people live on this money throughout the year," said Danny McLain, the coordinator.

To see a representative, you must make an appointment at 272-1888.

The program runs from January 30to April 15, 2013 at RCIL, 1607 Genesee Street in Utica.
