On this edition of Around Central New York, Joe Kelly heads north to the very appropriately named Snow Ridge in Turin, for a closer look at one of the oldest ski areas in New York State. Joe travels north to Turin, and spoke with Michael Sabatini, the mountain manager at Snow Ridge. Sabatini also operates Michael's at the Candlelight, a restaurant at the base of the ski hill. Snow Ridge dates back to 1945, and is one of the oldest ski resorts in New York State. In addition to talking with Sabatini, Joe rode the chairlift and checked out the facilities at Snow Ridge, which include a ski school, wax house, bunny hill, and T-bar. Snow Ridge enjoys the benefits of lake effect snow. But when Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, Snow Ridge can make snow and there is lighting for night skiing.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, Desert Storm to Kuwait, Vietnam, Korea or World War II, our sons and daughters have sacrificed to serve our country all over the world.

On Monday nights, WUTR Eyewitness News at 6 and CNYhomepage.com will honor chosen submissions of hometown mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers during our on-going Hometown Heroes campaign.

We will honor Hometown Heroes stemming from the nominations that we receive from our community. Each Hero will be featured on air and right here on CNYhomepage.com.
