Ending Unfunded Mandates

By: Administrator
Updated: February 6, 2013

One area state senator is proposing to end unfunded state mandates. Senator Joseph Griffo is proposing a bill to help simplify mandated programs from Albany.  Senator Griffo says the bill will require the mandate relief council to review existing mandates. The council will have the option of removing ones they deem unnecessary. The bill also says the state cannot mandate something without having some funding for the program.

Senator Griffo says, "I think this is the opportunity now to really have people examine something and in some cases it may be a good idea, but it's hard to find the money to do it so that burden shouldn't be placed on someone else, you shouldn't tax shift."

Senator Griffo says he has high hopes for the bill. Assemblyman Brindisi will be sponsoring it in the Assembly.
