One area church is taking Ash Wednesday to the streets.

It's being called "Ashes to Go," a national movement and new approach to the Christian tradition.

Today was the first time Rev. Joell of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church tried the contemporary method.

She was on the corner of Oxford Road and Genesee Street in New Hartford this afternoon.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of lent for Catholics and Christians.

"Society and our communities, people are not coming to church, so we are taking church to the people on the streets. One of the things we are taught is to take the church out into the world, so "Ashes to Go" is one way to do that," said Rev. Joelle Szachara.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of lent for Catholics and Christians. It's a time for reflection and repentance in preparation for the celebration of Easter.
