Young Volunteers Recognized Through The Oneida County Children Care Initiative

Volunteers give so much of themselves to help their communities and
today, one group of young volunteers were recognized for its service.
Over 900 youth gave 560 volunteer hours to the community through the Oneida County Children Care Initiative in 2012. And this morning, the Oneida County Executive and the Youth Bureau recognized their efforts. The Youth Bureau director says volunteering at an early age helps people truly understand the benefits of community service.
"It's the fourth consecutive year that the number of youth volunteers has exceeded the previous year, we're extremely proud of that. When youth volunteerism is down statewide, in Oneida County, it really is up every year. I think it's really a credit to people who work in non-profit agencies teaching the daily life lessons to the children to make their communities better," says Bob Roth, Director of Oneida County Youth Bureau.
The Oneida County Children Care Initiative is a collaboration between the Youth Bureau and 9 area agencies.
