Oneida County residents take a look at new redistricting lines

Oriskany resident, Lorrie Wasielewski has been keeping her eye on the redistricting in New York State.

"We have spent quite a bit of time at the state level, how things were decided after the Census," she said.

On Thursday night, she checked them out on a local level.

"It looks pretty good to me right now. I asked about the coverage. The numbers are very similar," she said.

Oneida County residents got to take an in person look at the newly drawn district lines for the Oneida County Legislators on Thursday.

It's the first of several public forums for residents.

"People can get right up close to the maps, look at them, ask questions one on one. It's more of an enlightenment for people," said Majority Leader, George Joseph.

The redistricting comes after voters in Oneida County approved to cut down the legislators from 29 to 23.

That meant the lines had to be re-drawn.

"It's all based on census, and this year the ten year Census showed we had to come up with about 10,040 per legislator," said Joseph.

And while the lines have been drawn, at least one Oneida County Legislator still isn't for the new districts.
