There are plenty of landmarks in Downtown Utica, but now the outer part of the city is about to get its own landmark.

A 125 foot tall sign spelling out "Utica," is going up along the thruway in North Utica. The sign will light up in red so everyone, including visitors, will be able to see it nice and clearly. Crews started working on the project last Friday and John Vella says the sign is a positive thing for the city.

"I think Utica is on the rise and i think this can only help people see Utica. How many cities actually have a big tower with their name on it facing the thruway? So i think that's going to be a plus."

The tower and all the wiring that goes along with it is expected to be finished in two to three weeks.
