Captain Luke Slatton is an infantry officer in the US Army and an Army Ranger with more than 10 years of military experience, including 27 months in combat deployments.

Luke served with distinction as both an Airborne Infantry Company Executive Officer and Company Commander, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service in a combat environment.

It was also during his deployment to Iraq that CPT Slatton learned that his brother had been severely wounded in combat actions outside of Baghdad. Luke spent his mid-tour break from Iraq at Walter Reed Army Medical Center at his brother's side.

CPT Slatton's Airborne Infantry Company sustained heavy losses in their fight against Al Qaeda, but their efforts were critical in the fight to remove Al Qaeda from Fallujah.

Luke is currently an instructor and training officer for Syracuse University ROTC, and also lectures on International Humanitarian Law and Rules of Engagement for a graduate level seminar.

CPT Slatton is also the military liaison for the Sitrin Health Care Center. He's involved with many veterans' organizations in the area and is committed to helping veterans in any way possible. Luke is married to his wife, Brianne, and has a son, Matthew, and another baby on the way.

Captain Luke Slatton, we salute you as our Hometown Hero of the week.
