It's one of the busiest travel days of the year. People were either coming into Utica or leaving town on Thanksgiving Eve for the long holiday weekend.

And one thing's for sure, people say the time and money that goes into traveling is well-worth it to see their family.

This thanksgiving, AAA expects more that 43-million Americans to travel over the holiday weekend.

"I think everybody should be with their family for the holidays," said Antoine Williams.

Williams says he's been traveling for almost 10 years back and forth to his hometown in Connecticut. So, for him he says it's nothing new.

He says he packed two days in advance and booked his ticket early.

Theresa Jones of Oriskany isn't traveling this year; she will be spending time with her family in Central New York.

She says Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two times when the family can be together.

"Family is nothing if you don't keep tradition. So that is the most important," said Jones.

Aside from people taking the bus or train, the majority of travelers will be getting to their destination by car.

Gas prices this year are similar to last year's- which was the most expensive average ever on Thanksgiving.
