Some community members are singing the night away.. for a good cause.

Over 20 contestants have signed up to compete in a karaoke contest to support the Wounded Warrior National Amputee Softball Team tonight at the Vista Lounge in Yorkville.

Each contestant has donated $50 dollars to participate and coordinators hope this event will spread more awareness.

"These folks are really human, and they've overcome a lot of tragedies in their lives and they are doing something to really further themselves. And also having fun. We really don't have 1st, 2nd, 3rd place things. We don't want anyone to feel like they didn't win. We have 22 trophies we're giving out. We're trying to spread the joy to everybody," says Alan Allen, event coordinator.

Coordinators say they are already prepping for a big event in May; a softball game at Murnane Field. They are still looking for sponsors for the event. Contact Jeffrey Kopec at (315) 542-4375 for more information or visit www.woundedwarrioramputeesoftballteam.org

hometown heroes

Our nation’s best make significant sacrifices while serving in our military to help preserve our freedom and way of life.

From Afghanistan to Iraq, Desert Storm to Kuwait, Vietnam, Korea or World War II, our sons and daughters have sacrificed to serve our country all over the world.

Nominate someone who you think should be a "Hometown Hero."

On Monday nights, WUTR Eyewitness News at 6 and CNYhomepage.com will honor chosen submissions of hometown mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers during our on-going Hometown Heroes campaign.

We will honor Hometown Heroes stemming from the nominations that we receive from our community. Each Hero will be featured on air and right here on CNYhomepage.com.
