Two area mayors are teaming up to beautify our community. Utica Mayor Robert Palmieri and Rome Mayor Joe Fusco announced the Rust 2 Green Urban Tree Planting Project this afternoon. The cities will share $25,000 dollars for the bulk purchase of trees, mulch, and other materials. The majority of trees will be planted in under-served neighborhoods and urban revitalization areas.

"What it does is it brings state dollars into our call so we can use for a physical project, to actually get something done on our streets. A lot of times we get grants that will cover planning and will cover engineering but it really doesn't cover the hard cost of getting the job done out on the street and this program is gonna help us do that," says Joe Fusco, (R) Rome Mayor.

The proposed planting start date is set for late April. And officials say they hope to be done by October, which is the fall planting season.
