Today marks the 71st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Area veterans gathered for a ceremony earlier this afternoon at veterans' park in New York Mills to remember those who were killed.

More than 2,400 Americans died on December 7th, 1941 as the Japanese bombed the U.S.

One area high school student who is waiting for a nomination to the Naval Academy says she's thankful for her freedoms.

"It's taking a moment to appreciate and recognize those who have served for our country and realizing that our freedoms have come with a sacrifice. It's an honor for me to standout here and stand here and recognize those who have given me my freedoms," said Ana Campas, a senior at Proctor High School.

Pearl Harbor is of course what drew the US into WWII.

More than seven decades later, it's remembered as a day "which will live in infamy."
