Area bars and restaurants are also trying to keep drivers safe on the roads tonight.

In an effort to reduce drinking and driving, places like Applebee's in Utica and Crossways Tavern in Ilion are giving out complementary non- alcoholic drinks to designated drivers.

Just tell the server you are the DD for the night, and you can get a free soda, coffee or hot tea.

"We want to promote everybody having a good time because it's New Year's Eve and it's the holidays, but we want everyone to be safe. Our way of helping out is doing just that. And if someone needs a cab we will get them a complimentary cab," said Brina Gagne, Director of Operations.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, everyday almost thirty people in the US die in car crashes that involve drunk drivers.

Participants:

-Applebees in North Utica
-Arthurs in Dolgeville
-Belly Up Pub in Herkimer
-PK's Pub in Herkimer
-Crossways Tavern in Ilion
