State parks across the country helped people get off on the right foot this January 1st. America's state parks announced today all 50 state park systems sponsored guided "First Day Hike" programs this new year's day to promote good health. And Glimmerglass State Park in Cooperstown took part. One Oneonta man says he wasn't hiking, but he was hitting the trails.

"It's a great way to start the new year out with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors. This year we're lucky enough to have a lot of snow. And it's just a good way to enjoy the outside and be around family," says James Hurtubise, Oneonta resident.

Coordinators say "First Day Hikes" are a great way to get outside and exercise, while welcoming in the new year. Today, there were over 600 first day hikes in America.
