Emergency and critical care services are expanding in Central New York. A new base of operations is expected to better serve our community.

Mercy Flight Central, the Rochester-based air medical service will be adding a third base of operations in Schuyler.

They're already based in Canandaigua and Marcellus. The expansion is expected to provide better service to trauma patients in the Utica-Rome area.

While mercy flight central has always served our region, adding the new base will enhance operations.

"We're bringing critical care to our patients with the helicopter and we are also reducing the transport time that the patients would have in the ambulances. You add those components together there are better chances for survival and better outcomes for our patients," said Neil Snedeker

The nearest base right now is in Marcellus, which in the event of emergency helicopters could be flying more than fifty miles to an accident. Operations in Schulyer are set to begin in March.
