Prescription medication can sometimes be a costly addition for those trying to save.

The United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area and the FamilyWize Community Services Partnership are helping people in the community save money on prescription medicine.

They say they have helped people save more than $130,000 locally.

It's all from using a FamilyWize card.

Anyone can use it, with or without insurance.

You just show it when you are at the pharmacy.

There are folks out there who maybe don't have insurance or their insurance has high co-pays that sometimes have to go without medication because they can't afford that cost. We don't want that happening, so a program like this that's recognized by most major pharmacies really helps people save money," said Brenda Episcopo, Executive Director of The United Way of the Valley and Greater Utica Area.

If you would like to save, you can canted United way at 315-733-4691.

You can also email them at info@unitedwaygu.org, visit www.familywize.org to download a card, or text 700700 to get a text version of the card.
