The city of Rome is considering a new energy program that would allow it
to buy electricity from the state. The city's last energy contract
expired in September. Under this new agreement, Rome would sign up for a
one- to three-year period. And some councilmen say this could save Rome
thousands of dollars on energy bills.
"It's potentially a source of the city of Rome to buy electrical power at a cheaper rate and if we can save any money at all in these these tough budgetary times, that's a move in the right direction because we needed to be finding these types of expense savings situations," says Frank Anderson, Rome Councilmen, R-5.
If the council approves the agreement, Rome will be the first municipality to buy electricity from the state. And if it is a success, the program may expand to other municipalities in our area.
