Oneonta City School District Develops Timeline For $4.6 Million Project

The Oneonta City School District has developed a timeline for work on a recently approved multi- million dollar capital project.

Voters approved the $4.6 million dollar project last week. A large aspect of the project is district-wide technology and safety upgrades. Officials say although these upgrades have been planned for quite some time, they came to reality following the recent school killings in Connecticut.

"I think it reemphasized the importance of the security aspect of the project. It includes single point of entry with digital surveillance, electric strike plates so doors can be electrically opened, includes proximity card readers so the staff when they go in and out of the building will have to go through a locked door," says David Rowley, The Oneonta City School District interim superintendent.

Other components of the project include improving the drainage behind the high school/middle school complex and replacing 2 ventilation units. The project is expected to be completed by fall.
